Chinoiserie Jewel Box - Los Gatos

When our clients approached the studio to reimagine their Powder Room, their request was simple: transform it from uninspired to imaginative. They desired a bold, outside-the-box solution that reflected their well-traveled lifestyle and appreciation for beauty, culture, and fine craftsmanship. With no need for performance-grade materials, our design team was free to indulge in artistry, material richness, and layered storytelling.
The resulting concept—Chinoiserie Jewel Box—is anchored by a bespoke vanity that fuses glamour and heritage. This statement piece features specialty architectural laminated glass encasing a bamboo substrate- a subtle nod to Asian influence, dramatically lit from within by concealed LED lighting. Designed in close collaboration with our cabinetmaker, lighting designer, and artisan glass vendor, the vanity glows like a lantern—its soft luminosity inviting curiosity and delight.
An onyx vessel sink, sourced from Arizona, was selected for its grounding energy and symbolism of good fortune. The warm veining complements the hand-applied metal leaf sconces and opulent Indian-inspired wallcovering—an embroidered silk with metallic gold threads that shimmer in low light. These elements work in concert to create a layered, immersive environment rich in texture and light play.
Ergonomics were tailored to the clients’ needs: both are of shorter stature, so faucet height and sink placement were precisely calibrated. While we recommended a backsplash to preserve the delicate wallcovering, the client preferred a clean, uninterrupted surface—an intentional and personal choice.
Finishing touches include curated gold metal legs that elevate the vanity—literally and figuratively—enhancing the jewel box effect. Every detail, from the selected stone to the plumbing fixtures and material finishes, contributes to a one-of-a-kind composition that celebrates artistry, intimacy, and global inspiration
